Guidelines for parents of 1rst and 2nd year of Primary School - December Character Strength

GOAL SLOGAN: I DO FAVOURS FOR EVERYONE

SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

The questions below are designed to help you think about how you can help from home   with the skills development programme your child is taking part in.

  1. How do I ensure that my children do not have a materialistic mind-set and Identify love with giving things? How do I show them that love cannot be bought?
  2. How do we promote an initiative from home that attends to those in need; by keeping a piggy bank for a determined social cause? By cooperating in a group in a charity campaign? By taking part together in volunteer activities?
  3. Being the last to choose so that other family members can have the best options.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

The suggestions below show when personal parental involvement is necessary. The aim of the subjects proposed is to demonstrate where you might be able to support your child and help him to work on developing this month’s skill.

  1. By asking your child to help you to provide food or clothes to a charity organisation.
  2. On birthdays or at Christmas, are you able to explain why we receive presents? It is worthwhile teaching them to prepare presents for the family at these times; even a drawing or a few written lines. The most important thing about a present is not their economic value, but the love with which they are given.
  3. Giving away toys to siblings, family members or neighbours is being generous. You need to establish criteria about what can and cannot be donated.
  4. By learning not to moan when you don’t have what you want. These are valuable occasions for valuing what we have.
