Valentí Hernansáez Benedito is currently a student of the school’s international scientific baccalaureate. Through his chemistry research, Valentí analyzed the caffeine content in different cola drinks.
He has previously performed the extraction of this molecule in various beverages in the laboratories of the school using organic solvents. Later, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Girona has facilitated that Valentí could use the rotary evaporator, a device used in chemical laboratories for the efficient removal of solvents from the samples by evaporation.
This instrument, not available in the school’s labs, is very specific and has made it easy to remove the organic solvent in order to obtain the caffeine studied in the aforementioned work.
