Last term we did a LIVE with the Bell-lloc Infantil teacher, Maria Pujol.<\/span><\/p>\n

We talked about autonomy, the first strength we worked on in our Project <\/span>B! Character Mini <\/span><\/i>with continuity until the end of Secondary School.<\/span><\/p>\n

Live Autonom\u00eda<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

What is the meaning of Child\u2019s Autonomy? It is the capacity to be able to solve by himself, in an autonomous way (without our help) different situations he will encounter during the day: the meals, to put on shoes and jacket, to wash the hands… etc. These are different situations at home and school, and they are going to repeat them several times (repetition). We habituate us to do it if we repeat the action.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is necessary to take into account if we want to teach a habit is:<\/span><\/p>\n

1) To check if the child has acquired the necessary skills for the habit that we want to propose. For example: buttoning a button (he needs to exercise fine motor skills, pinching with two fingers…)<\/span><\/p>\n

2) To involve the child in learning the habit process. Initially, with our supervision, we can help him if he experiences any trouble (we can help him but not solve the problems) e.g.: being able to dress himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

We propose 5 action guidelines to educate the habit of autonomy:<\/span><\/p>\n

1) DO NOT anticipate, he can do it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2) LET him make mistakes: give him the opportunity to learn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3) ALLOW him to face the consequences of his mistakes: they will help him to learn lessons from the experience, paying attention.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4) Accompany him IN HIS FRUSTRATION DURING THE PROCESS: with positive reinforcement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5) Believe that he can do it: self-esteem. Self-esteem grows by taking on challenges every day.<\/span><\/p>\n
